Evaluation / Question 5

Mise en scene

Setting/location - We think this would appeal to our target audience. Since it is set in Peckham, it is very urban, and so many teens would be familiar with the type of film it is.

Costumes - The costumes worn were tracksuits for the gang of girls, and casual clothing for Kim. We think this would appeal to our audience as the costumes are realistic and are seen worn in real life. This would intrigue our audience.

Lighting - The lighting was natural, which gave our film a more realistic effect so I think this would appeal to our target audience.

Actors and storyline

I think the actors and storyline would appeal to our audience as the type of thing that happens in the film also happens in real life, so I think they would find it interesting to see how it would be acted out and what story would be told.

Rough cut

This is our first rough cut for Frontline. In this video, it is our rough outline of what our final film opening will look like. No music or titles were added as this was only rough.

Finalizing the film frontline

All the clips needed for the film has been edited and added effects to, in order for a smooth transition. We have come to a decision of using the night version, as our group believes it is the most effect and brings out the best of the scenario around our film. Initially it create suspense and builds up drama for the audience making it visually interesting to watch. We alsobasked opinions from couple of others outside the media, to gain an insight to what they thought, overall they preffered the night version as it was upbeat.

After inputting all the scenes needed for the transition to day and night, we had to think about choice of music to reflect our film, we searched on soundcloud for an eerie suspense music. From alot of searches we found our perfect match.

Lady Pearl then created the titles on photoshop after deciding on the font road crew. This was particularly as important as the font had to reflect the mood of the film.

The music was downloaded from sound cloud and had to be converted in order for us to be able to use this in our film. Fergus, one of the media technicians, helped us do this, we then saved it on the hard drive ready for inputting into our final piece.

As the music went on and title too, the film was slowly coming together, I thought our group has done esspecially well, from the tough days of filming to working days in editing suite. I am proud of our final piece and hope it can show through the film of our hard work.

Night VS Day Scene

We are currently debating on which scene to use, the night scene or the day scene. The night scene includes the transition between the day and night as we have an effective scene which makes this transition happen. However the day scene includes no dark scenes but towards the end we can see that the scene is getting dark but not completely dark. We have made two different films including these features using final cut pro and we will watch over them to see which one is the most effective to us as our final film. If we can not decide which film we like then we will have to ask other people on which film they like the night of day scene and we will chose from their decision. In the meantime we will continue to edit both night and day scenes.

Final Days of Filming

These are the crucial days of editing as the count down has begun.

After Chanise did a rough copy of the layout of the film, we had a rough guide of where the film was going.  From this we followed the story board to create our film. Although we shooted extra experimental shots we included these shots as match cuts and made it visually more interesting.

From feedback from both Dan and Donna, we recieved constructive critisicms as well as what shots went well.  From this we had to play around with the shots we had, as some shots were out of focus or had glitches, somwtimes even the tripod was on set.

I helped with editing, putting the clips onto the timeline and it slowly coming together, the editing process was quite hard as certain clips had to be cut and shortened, and effects like transitions were considered to help a smooth follow through.

I also created a presentation on emaze, talking about location, filming problems and showing pictures of the filimg days.

We added music which enhanced the film, aswell as the transitions and effects.

Today whilst we was editing the final piece, Donna wanted to include previous clips from our first filming days, we coorporated the clips and edited it in a way so that they create suspense and drama adding tension to the film. When I watched over the film it seems to be as the girl who was smoking was watching from the start of the poor girls journey to the end of her getting mugged. This should reinforce the whole gang and intimadation that they bring along with them on to set.

For me, my favorite part was when the music beat was edited to drop when the first reaction happens creating a build up to the main act. Also I liked how we cut the scene of the gang member girl smoking , from this we created two individual clips, one was when she took the cigarette , opening into the scene of the gang, it was a smooth transition to the night, to the end where she lets out the smoke, symbolizing it has come to an end of the commotion as well as the film itself.

Editing day 1

Editing Day 1

On the first day we edited, we uploaded all the clips from the SD cards and put them onto our video drive and onto Final Cut Pro. We sorted out the scenes we wanted to use and the ones we didn't. For the most part, we just wanted to get our clips in the right order on final cut pro, and think about how to start editing our film.

Production - Half term 2

On Tuesday 18th of February, we arrived at Chanises house at 9.30am. Luckily there was no rain on this day so it was perfect to film. We prepared our equipment and took the p12 to Peckham once everyone arrived.

Once we got to Peckham, we re-filmed the shots that we had to redo from the previous filming session. Ensuring that there was no space left above the head, and that the camera was in focus the entire time. When we were ready to leave to get back to Chanises area, we realised that a quiet area in Peckham with graffiti would be a better place to film.

This is a picture from one of the pieces that were in the area. We thought this was a great area to film in as the graffiti on the walls reflected the characters and what they were about. So this now became our new location to film where the mugging incident took place.

We went to Chanises house to quickly plan how we were going to film in this new location and then went back to Peckham. Unfortunately this meant that we were unable to bring a key prop which was the bike, this required some deep thought about how filming was going to go.

For this day, filming went great and we made sure most of the shots were good and redid the ones we thought didn't look as good.

Production- Half term

On Monday 17th February we all made our way to Chanise's house at 9:30am. We filmed some of the first part of our film but after 2 hours of filming it started to rain heavy (11:30am). We waited for it to stop but it got even more heavy so we couldn't film at all on Monday. Instead of filming we done our interviews ready to upload on Mondays lesson after half term. On Tuesday 17th we will film the film as the whether will be better.

Branding our blog visually

For our title we used Photoshop. We decided to go with the font 'RoadCrew" in bold as it stood out to us the best. We liked the urban edge that it had, we feel as though it blends well with our urban-based youth drama. The idea of using he contrasting colours black and white reflects the simplicity of our designs and also the colours of each of our costumes. Hence keeping a sense of continuity.

We also changed the complete layout of the blog to match our title. This gave our blog a more professional look and made it look somewhat cleaner. The new layout also reflects our film and its ideas as the group of girls who commit the crime are mostly dressed in black.
