Task 1 - What is a Target Audience?

Task 1 - What is a Target Audience?

What is an audience?

An audience is the assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a play, film, concert, or meeting.

How do you define your target audience?

A target audience is a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed. One of the first things you do is decide where your target audience is going to be located. Then, you decide whether they are male, female or both. You decide on their average age and on any common interests. You also have to consider their income range, or any if they even have an income range, and what common values they may share.

Why is it useful for a film to have a target audience?

It if useful to have a target audience because it will help you save time and money. It is also important as it your target audience will plane the types of people who will most likely be watching your film, and it was also determine the content shown in your film. For example, a trailer for the film that is aiming to appeal to a teenage market will be different to a trailer appealing to older people.

Which audiences do you think teen dramas appeal to?

I think the primary audience for teen dramas are mainly teenagers ranging from the ages of 13-19, both male and female, in high school or just left high school. I think this because most teen dramas are set in high schools or based around that time, so films like that are already aimed towards the teen martlet. Also, teen dramas can be based around a main character of a male or a female, so it can be directed at both genders. The film can contain things of similar interests both to male and female teen viewers. An example of this could a teen drama film about the first day of high school. Teen dramas can also have a secondary audience where the film can appeal to parents, friends or family etc.
